The world’s number one peak performance coach is celebrating 10 years since the documentary “Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru” was released. The film offers an up-close look at Robbins’ world-renowned results coaching strategies through the lens of his Date with Destiny event. The film premiered at South by Southwest in March 2016 before reaching a global audience on Netflix. A decade later, it continues to introduce new audiences to Robbins’ approach to helping people create lasting personal change.
Date With Destiny is a transformative six-day personal development event where participants discover their true purpose, overcome limiting beliefs, reignite passion and confidence, and create a clear blueprint for their ideal future. Documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger first attended the event in 2012. Initially a skeptic, he was brought to tears by the event. He left convinced the experience deserved to be shared with a broader audience and spent the next two years persuading Robbins to let him create a behind-the-scenes film about the event.
Robbins rejects the idea that our conditions control our life. In his words, “It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.” That empowering idea sits at the heart of Date with Destiny.
“People think, ‘When everything goes a certain way, then I’ll be happy,’” said Robbins. “Unless you can find joy in whatever moment you’re dealing with, including your challenging times, you’re not going to have a sustainable quality of life.”
Berlinger has shared that viewers continue to reach out about “I Am Not Your Guru,” including people who drew inspiration and hope from the film while facing challenges such as cancer or divorce. Berlinger has described the making of the film as “the most impactful experience I’ve ever had” and “the honor of my life.”
Robbins’ work continues through his results coaching for individuals and businesses and his ongoing events. The next Date with Destiny is scheduled from December 4th to 9th, 2026, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Robbins has coached four U.S. presidents, athletes like Serena Williams and Andre Agassi, and business leaders like Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff. His programs have reached more than 100 million people from 193 countries.
The anniversary of “Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru” gives longtime viewers a reason to revisit the film and new ones an introduction to what happens inside the room at Date with Destiny, which is now in its 38th year.
